Ticket Types Explained:
Tickets are split into two separate types, Advance and On - the -Day.
Advance tickets can be purchased ahead of time, and are almost always cheaper. However, they are bound to a specific train, which cannot be altered without a £10 administration fee, and are non-refundable.
There are several types of ticket purchasable on the day of travel; Anytime, Off Peak and Super off Peak. Both types are available as a "Day" ticket, or an open ticket, valid for a month. Off peak tickets are available after 8:30 on Arriva Trains Wales, and Cross Country as far as Cheltenham Spa, and 9:30 for Cross Country beyond Cheltenham. Super off peak tickets are available for travel after 10:00 on certain routes, such as Chepstow to London Paddington.
Open returns are valid for outward travel 3 days after the start date, and are valid for a month for the return journey.
